A few years ago I also started shooting black & white film again, with a large format view camera. I bought an old Kodak 2D, in a “whole plate” format, which is 6.5”x 8.5”. This obsolete format is the same proportions as the iPhone camera, and as the 645 medium format cameras. I’ve always liked that shape. It is the shape Atget used. It is not as square as 8x10, which is the format I used for 15 years, with color film, in the late 80s, but like the 8x10 is large enough that can make contact prints.
I will post some of that work here, in the next months. For now, I am just posting RIDGE, which I think of as a Zine. Maybe a zine is like a chapbook, to a poet. More black & white will come as I process and print, and figure out a little more about this return of interest. These pictures were made not with the view camera, but with a small digital camera, converted to black & white.
