The Asheville Stockyards

“Order Up!”

The old Asheville Stockyards was razed to make way for the New Belgium Brewing Company’s east coast plant, along the French Broad River in Asheville, NC. Many of the businesses in the old Stockyards had been a part of Asheville for generations, and the people that ran them were a part of a mountain culture that is receding today. I photographed there between 2012-15, using a Hasselblad on the ground, as well as a helium-filled, tethered balloon to lift a digital camera to make low elevation aerial pictures.
