Colorado’s Front Range: 8x10 camera images from 1988-98
After grad school I returned to Colorado, where I’d grown up, and found a job at the University of Colorado at Boulder as the chief photographer in the Public Relations and Publications office. Having a job supplied money to try out color film with the 8x10 camera I’d started using in grad school, and it was a revelation to me. It felt like such a lush opportunity, in the arid environment of Colorado’s Front Range. Color pictures add up to meaning in a different way than black & white it seems to me, and after an extended period of bashing my head against a wall in grad school (not an uncommon experience or an un-useful one, really), switching to color provided a kind of reset button for my love of the medium.
